Stay Focused On Your Mission
In a World filled with mission statements, it may be time to ditch the mission statement and go on a mission.
Hi Team….
I want to remind you of something today: Stay focused on your mission….
If you think about the military, they start and complete missions.
What is a mission?
By definition, it is:
- A special assignment given to a person or group.
- A combat operation assigned to a person or military unit.
What if you looked at what you did as a “special assignment” or a combat operation that was assigned to you.
How would this change how you work and what you do?
Would you dial in more?
Would you go the extra mile?
Would you work that much harder?
Well, here is something I believe…
I believe we fatigue out and burnout when we look at things as an extended event with no finish line…
For example: Working Monday- Friday (Forever)…
If you think about that, it is exhausting.
But what if you gave the next 10-days a theme…. and that became your mission..
Operation Lose a Pound…
Or, Operation Win Client X…
Keep the missions short and sweet.
These are fun psychological strategies you can use to add purpose, engagement and differentiation to your day/ week/ month/ quarter/ year.
I have found in coaching individuals they get tired, fatigued, and bored when each day is just a replica of the next…
You can have a solid, consistent routine- but you must excite the mind by giving it a fresh theme and target… or mission.
What would your mission be for today?
What would you want to accomplish between now and the end of the week?
Then ask yourself- was your mission a success or a fail?
This is a tool that can be used for you the individual, but also with teams.
You can ask your team members, what is your mission this week?
Have them create their mission every Monday for the week.
You do the same.
When I wrote my new book, Habits of a Champion Team, it was all about getting higher levels of performance out of you the individual and the team.

That requires a leader to keep it fresh, exciting, and constantly challenging the mind to see things as new, fresh, and keeping the mind in an opportunistic state.
This is how you create victories.
Give it a shot.
Let me know how it goes…
